The Little White Dress
People keep talking about the Little Black Dress (LBD) and how it’s an absolute style essential. I don’t deny that - I actually own 7 LBDs in varying degrees of formality - but I feel that the Little White Dress deserves some loving, too.
White clothes are often avoided because they’re giant stain targets. If you’re careful, though, your whites can go pretty far. I decided to dress this up by adding glittery pumps and a clutch, with an updo. It could be dressed down with a denim jacket and sneakers, too.
Yes, I know that white isn’t exactly the most forgiving color in terms of creating illusions of curves or defining shape, but the LWD comes in so many styles and cuts that there’s bound to be at least one out there for you. It’s a lighter, breezier option. (Can you tell yet how much I adore white?)

What I would have worn to prom (if I had one).

I’m not gonna go off on a long rant about how we should’ve had a prom and how I missed half my life and all that. I came from a small school, and there were only 20 of us in the entire BATCH, so a prom would’ve been impractical. That, and we wouldn’t have been allowed to bring dates from outside school, and we were all pretty sick of each others’ faces. XD

I was asked to a couple of other proms, but my parents didn’t let me go to those. Kinda glad I wasn’t on Facebook yet back then, since I would definitely have been jealous that people were getting dressed up and everything. Spare me your prom nightmares and disaster stories, you won’t get any sympathy from me. I’ll probably just make fun of you. :P

Anyway, now that I’m several years past the usual prom age, I look back and think, “I don’t even need an excuse to get all dressed up now.” Dressing up is definitely more fun when you do it for yourself, IMO.

And what would I have worn back then, anyway?

This dress has been with me for years. It was my high school graduation dress, and it’s served me pretty well. After graduation, I wore it for a couple of shoots and events, and I’d like to think it’s a classic piece that I’m going to keep in my closet for a long time.

I wore this for my “Playing Cinderella” shoot back in 2009. Life also shot me in this same dress back in 2010. This was also the dress I used for my "Just Be Friends" Megurine Luka cosplay (2012).

I’ve loved white dresses for a while, and the ever-so-slight poofiness of this skirt feels just right. Nothing too over-the-top here. This was also my dream hairstyle back in high school, side-swept bangs, curls and all! My hair was definitely long enough for it back then, but I wasn’t allowed to get bangs. XD Pretty sure that had I actually gone to prom, this is how I would’ve looked. I probably would’ve taken the heels off halfway through the night, though.

Aaaaaand BONUS PIC! Same dress, worn with different shoes and wig. This is what happens when I take posing tips from my best (GUY) friend. XD

Yep, I think that’s the last time I imitate any of his poses.

That’s it for now, I hope you enjoyed my derp-filled ramblings and silly pictures! ‘Til the next entry, ciao!

A New Beginning

This is my first legit shoot for 2013, and I am extremely happy with it. These are just some of the shots that Life (yes, that’s her real name!) took, and I am definitely excited to see the rest!

CONFESSION: I was supposed to use one of these shots as my entry in dolldelight’s model search.

I’ve dropped out of the contest, not because I don’t have a presentable entry, but for personal reasons. I looked at these shots and realized that while we were shooting, I wasn’t thinking about the contest. I was doing this because it’s something I love. I work with the photographer to try and produce the best possible shots. I do it because this is the art that I choose.

I personally believe that our efforts deserve more than to be entered in a popularity contest. I understand the value of an artist’s effort, and I don’t think any form of art should be judged according to its popularity, but rather, by its quality. (the entries in round 1 look good, don’t get me wrong. Check them out yourself!)

This shoot marks a new beginning for me. A renewed appreciation for photography, and for my chosen art. I made it my new year’s resolution to do at least one good shoot every month, and I think this is an excellent start. I’m ridiculously excited to shoot again, and I am already preparing for February’s shoot. :D
