Dolldelight’s Kawaii Pinay Meet! ♡

image

I’ve known Cy of dolldelight for years. I first met her online four years ago, and had the pleasure of meeting her face-to-face a short while before she left for the US. I never quite knew when she was coming back for a visit, so it was pleasant news to find out she’s in the Philippines for a bit!

She had a meet-and-greet in Tokyo Bubble Tea prior to this more exclusive one, which I didn’t get to go to. I came in pretty late for this one too, because of other obligations. That, and I had to drive really carefully lest I damage my car fixtures with my nail art, which I’ll post about later. XD

image

Outfit photo! I had two outfits planned for this meet, but went with a more himekaji-inspired look because I didn’t feel like being completely covered up with long sleeves and OTKs (I blame the heat in this country, haha). I insisted on showing off my nails because those were ridiculously difficult for me to stick on. XD I’ll be shooting my outfit some other time. This is probably the last time I’ll depend solely on my phone for photos of a meetup, the pictures turned out really bad. :(

Throwback Thursday: Redhead!
I miss this wig. I still have it, and I’ve been planning to cut the fringe for goodness knows how long, but I haven’t gotten around to it. OTL
I also miss my DSLR. It’s been out of commission for a while because I’ve been putting off bringing in the lenses for servicing. :( I should probably get that done this year.

Thank goodness it’s Friday!
It’s been a rollercoaster week and I just want things to slow down. Been sickly, and frustrated with my lack of progress on stuff I’ve been meaning to work on. I’m really looking forward to just chilling and working on my projects at my own pace this weekend. XD

HOW DO YOU VALENTINE’S?!
This is the first shot I’m releasing from last Saturday’s shoot! I am sooooo gorgeous here. XD Here’s the Valentine’s greeting I did last 2012. I regret not doing a new one last year. :(
So yeah, it’s the day of love. Not the day exclusively for couples, but for people you love. Though I believe we should be showing our loved ones that we love them all year round, we can probably afford to go the extra mile today. <3
Whether you’re spending Valentine’s with your significant other, your brothers and sisters, your best friends, your grandparents, your parents, your dog, your neighbor’s dog(!), I hope you have a good one. :)

Bringing Back Wonderland
I didn’t get to post about it the other day, but December 17 was my “Lolita Birthday.” It was on that day, back in 2010, that I first got to wear lolita fashion. It was admittedly a sub-par coord and I will forever keep the pictures buried, but it’s what really pulled me in.
Lolita fashion is my personal Wonderland. I get to try things that I normally wouldn’t, sewing-wise. I get to see a lot of beautiful, quirky, and creative outfits from the worldwide community. I’ve even made friends because of it, people who I hold close to my heart.
The past year or so has been interesting for me. Contrary to popular belief, I don’t just dress up and have photo shoots all the time. XD I switched jobs (from ESL teacher to Executive Assistant), I’ve learned things the hard way, survived a couple of heartaches, and had my share of little victories. I’ve been writing for Scene Index for a couple of months now, and I’m trying to make time to update this blog and my (currently dusty/semi-deserted) doll blog.
One thing I’ve noticed is that I struggle to be happy. Sure, I’m generally happy, but not “I’m so happy I could die” kind of happy. Nothing drug-induced, I’m just after that natural high when I’m having fun. Then I figured it out: I wasn’t dressing up as much, particularly lolita.
Each time I don the frills and poofiness for a shoot, I start feeling happy. Okay, first I get irritated because the tights are too tight, and the petticoats are too poofy, and why-can’t-I-get-this-dress -to-zip-up? THEN I start getting all the feelings of happiness as I look at the mirror and nitpick the details on my outfit. I feel like a cupcake-princess-poof-fairy and everything’s just fine.
It might seem like a shallow thing to other people, but I have been dressing up - whether in costume or “unusual” fashion - ever since I was young, and that’s something that I will not let go of easily. It’s a part of me, and it’s part of what keeps me happy.
I hope I get to dress up more in 2014, because I’d really like to bring back my Wonderland.
Cheers.Vanessa

Split Personality on LOOKBOOK.nu

Ever since the first time I tried on a split wig, I thought I looked like an idiot in one. It was a pink and mint split wig, and maybe I looked nice in it to other people, but I’ll never know, because I sold the wig as quickly as I could. I tried again with a pink and lavender split, but it still looked bad.

The first split wig I got along with was a chocolate/milk tea split. The colors were more natural, and though milk tea-colored wigs normally look bad with my skintone, the chocolate brown helped to anchor it down. That was my first split wig success story.

This wig is actually sponsored by GLW, because I placed in their GLW Model Search in 2012. It took me forever to shoot with it, and it got phased out. I feel really bad about that! D: but we’ve sorted it out, and I’m shooting something else for them! ♥ ♥

I was really hesitant about this particular wig, because teal isn’t exactly my top choice for a wig color. I agreed because I felt like it would be a good challenge. I’m still trying to see if I can make it work with my other stuff, but this is what I’ve managed to come up with, so far. :D Less cutesy, and more leg. Split personality, maybe? /shot

Old School Vanessa!
This shot’s from 2011, back when I got to wear lolita often. It feels so long ago, and I can’t wait to wear lolita again. <3
I actually kind of hated this wig on me, back then. Now I kind of miss it and I want to get another lavender wig. XD I abused this particular JSK, though. It was the item that marked my mint obsession. ‘Til now, I only have the mint colorway of JSKs. Whoops?

Behind the Scenes: Curiouser and Curiouser

image

I got to shoot with Mark U. of Coffeebugg Photography back in July! I loved getting to shoot in lolita again, I didn’t think I’d missed it this much. Mark was pretty game for my silliness and derpy poses, so I think we got along pretty well. XD

image

There’s Mark, explaining the effect he wants to his photography assistant. I was just derping around. Kinda glad the straps were kinda covered by the wig, I hadn’t noticed that they were a bit lopsided. D:

image

This is the first time I’ve shot with a lighting setup that was constantly being moved. And this would be the nth time that Mark has accidentally had the flash pop while he was looking right at the bulb. XD

image

And here I am, channeling my inner Disney Princess. Couldn’t help it, that ladder was too perfect for my Belle moment!

image

Mark and his assistant were setting up stuff so that we could shoot in that part of the warehouse. It was actually pretty fun being in a dusty storeroom, but I did have to remember that my dress was still dominantly white. D:

image

Then Mark let me fool around with his TLR! <3 Look at that stupidhappy face! Been wanting to collect all sorts of cameras, but I haven’t had the chance to start yet. :(

image

I am still genuinely surprised when people express interest in having me as their model. I dance a lot, I prance all over the place, and a lot of the time I make these unexplainable faces. XD but then again, as long as the shots come out well, I don’t think any of us are complaining!
