The life, style, and derp of a small-town girl. Dress-up misadventures, crafting frustrations, and little obsessions can be found here.

This blog is full of my face. You have been warned.

Do you wanna have a cupcaaaake~?
I’m gonna need some sweets to pick me up and get me out of bed for Monday. My body is not ready for Monday.
Can it be Friday already?

Brunette Transformation!
When I look at my shots and see my black eyebrows under other natural-colored wigs (brown, blond, ginger), I get really annoyed. I know the cosplay-friendly method of coloring brows, but it ends up looking too fake on me. :( it doesn’t bother most people, I guess, but it bothered me.
I’ve been looking for eyebrow mascaras that would show up against black hair and provide good coverage. I’ve used eyelash mascaras on my eyebrows before, but none of the browns I’ve tried would work on me.
Mentioned in a previous post that transformation is my hobby, and I like doing new things, whether big or small, that work towards improving how I look for my cosplays or fashion shoots. I used the Dolly Wink eyebrow mascara for this look, but it came out lighter than I expected, so I layered it with regular brown to achieve a chocolate-y brown to go with my wig. I’ll do a review on it soonish, I guess. I just had to try this look to make sure it would work for this weekend’s shoot. :D
A simple transformation that does make a big difference.

Doll wigs! Wish I had them in my size, in these colors. The middle one looks like an Anna wig (Frozen), but I styled it that way for my girl before Frozen even had trailers out. HAHAHAHA

Hello, 2014!
(disclaimer: this isn’t the post I originally intended to be my first for 2014, haha)
Happy New Year, everyone! My 2013 was rather… interesting with plenty of ups and downs. I managed to squeeze in a decent number of shoots, and had plenty of fun with them. My job switch is turning out to be very beneficial as well. I actually enjoy my job, even though it gets stressful at times. XD
I have only one new year’s resolution: I will be happy, and I won’t let anyone take that away from me. Happiness is in our hands, we control how we react to everything that’s happening. I want to make sure that I don’t lie to myself or make excuses or blame other people/things for my unhappiness.
This year, I’m pouring more time into the things I love, the things that keep me happy, and the things that keep me sane. If you’re following this blog, then I’m glad to have you along for the journey. :D Your messages, comments and feedback - here and on my other pages - serve as my inspiration to do better. Thank you for keeping me company. :D
So here’s to a fruitful, happy 2014. Cheers!

Behind the Scenes - Lolita Fashion shoot
I haven’t had the chance to wear lolita for quite a while, so this was a welcome change. I’d almost forgotten how exhausting it can get to dress up in so many layers of frilly, poofy girly-ness, and doing it more than once can get really tiring. I was reminded how out of shape I’ve gotten when I was defeated by a faulty zipper, just because I didn’t have the strength to wrestle my way in or out of the dress. OTL
JR shot me again, and I wanted him specifically for this shoot because he was the one who’d actually pushed me to get into lolita fashion years ago. I have always thanked/blamed him for it. I’m picking out the top shots in a bit so that he can work on them. XD
And yes, I am a strawberry unicorn that is a pastry-looking clip on my head.

Light & Easy (on LOOKBOOK.nu)

I find white an easy color to coordinate with. Some people steer away from white because of various reasons, ranging from “I don’t have enough white clothes for an outfit” to “I don’t want to become a giant target for food stains!”

I’m pretty picky with the white pieces that I choose. I usually go for lacy numbers like this one, because they can be dressed up or down just by layering them with other pieces. For this outfit, I decided to go with a dominantly white scheme with brown and nude-colored accents and finished it off with a pair of heels that I customized to my taste.

You can hype this on LOOKBOOK.nu

The Green Fairy

I can’t believe that I haven’t shared this here! The Green Fairy concept was where this all started for me. The photos you see here are from the re-shoot, where I managed to complete the items on my “ideal items” list, dress/wings/specific contact lenses/wig/elf ears. I obtained these over the span of about two years, and got to re-shoot with some awesome photographers!

I’ll probably share the photos from the first shoot sometime, though looking at them makes me cringe just a little. My photographer did a wonderful job, but I had the facial expression range of a fish and no idea how to pose back then. >_<;;

The Sweetest Thing

I haven’t shot anything sweet-looking recently, and I’ve missed my candy-colored wigs so much! I’m easing back into it, though. I thought this wig was perfect for that!

I’ve been looking for a good light brown wig that doesn’t look BLEGH with my complexion, and I took a chance on the Strawberry Latte from Gothic Lolita Wigs. Their Light Brown looked awful ON ME, so I was afraid of how this would look when I wear it. To my (pleasant) surprise, this wig was more of a honey brown, instead of milk tea brown, and it worked for me! <3 The pink streaks are a big plus in my book, because it’s my favorite color.

I also want to point out the awesome spiked floral headband that I got from Dark~Sweet~Soul! I usually get black leather and spiked headbands from there, but this was a refreshing change. :D

Gonna start wearing my sweet wigs a little more often now, so you’ll probably see more of them soon! :D

'Til next time,
Vanessa <3

Had fun shooting this set! Twintails wigs can be very versatile, you don’t have to wear it the exact same way everyone else does. XD
