The life, style, and derp of a small-town girl. Dress-up misadventures, crafting frustrations, and little obsessions can be found here.

This blog is full of my face. You have been warned.

A new week~
So… it’s almost Monday. I don’t think I’m ready. I feel overworked and very stressed. :( Juggling my schedule has proven to be quite a challenge, but I’m managing to get by without compromising work quality (I THINK).
I haven’t gotten around to scheduling new shoots, but it’s gotten trickier in the last few weeks. ; A ; SOON, I HOPE HUHUHUHU

Marching to the beat of my own drum. (on LOOKBOOK.nu)
I learned early on that many of the things I’m passionate about were not… “normal.” People normally expressed confusion, sometimes even outright condescendence, at my hobbies and collections.
Theater played a major role in my childhood, it’s my first love. I guess I owe my love for the more dramatic things to that. Transformation became my hobby, something that I wanted to do even offstage. It took me years to finally start living my “mahou shoujo transformation” dreams, but I don’t think I’m giving it up for a long while.
When going with anything “unusual,” one is bound to encounter people who are against everything you do. “Why do you wear wigs? They’re gross” or “Why can’t you be normal?” are examples of what people have said to me. I don’t really like “normal,” but I don’t force other people to enjoy what I like, because I respect that people are different and will therefore like different things. I often wish I could ask the same of others.
People will fear or dislike anything that they do not know much about. If we could instead choose to learn more about these things and respect that people enjoy these, no matter how unusual these are, I think we’d all get along much better. As long as you aren’t actually hurting anybody (within reason, of course, because some people are easily offended by anything and everything), I think it would be best not to listen to the naysayers. I’ve considered giving up my hobbies before, but I’m still doing them, because they make me happy.

HOW DO YOU VALENTINE’S?!
This is the first shot I’m releasing from last Saturday’s shoot! I am sooooo gorgeous here. XD Here’s the Valentine’s greeting I did last 2012. I regret not doing a new one last year. :(
So yeah, it’s the day of love. Not the day exclusively for couples, but for people you love. Though I believe we should be showing our loved ones that we love them all year round, we can probably afford to go the extra mile today. <3
Whether you’re spending Valentine’s with your significant other, your brothers and sisters, your best friends, your grandparents, your parents, your dog, your neighbor’s dog(!), I hope you have a good one. :)

Girly eyemake~
I reaaaaally wanted to get good photos of this, but my camera’s currently out of commission. :(
Pink is one of my absolute favorite colors to work with, and I thought it would suit this look. There are pink flowers on my top, but I forgot that the Rhapsody pretty much covers everything. XD
Also finally got to try the Dolluxe lashes! I adore falsies like whoa, and I’ve been itching to get my hands on these. I’m getting the rest of the designs before I do a review, but I’m liking them so far. They definitely suited my eyeshadow better than my regular falsies.

The Sweetest Thing

I haven’t shot anything sweet-looking recently, and I’ve missed my candy-colored wigs so much! I’m easing back into it, though. I thought this wig was perfect for that!

I’ve been looking for a good light brown wig that doesn’t look BLEGH with my complexion, and I took a chance on the Strawberry Latte from Gothic Lolita Wigs. Their Light Brown looked awful ON ME, so I was afraid of how this would look when I wear it. To my (pleasant) surprise, this wig was more of a honey brown, instead of milk tea brown, and it worked for me! <3 The pink streaks are a big plus in my book, because it’s my favorite color.

I also want to point out the awesome spiked floral headband that I got from Dark~Sweet~Soul! I usually get black leather and spiked headbands from there, but this was a refreshing change. :D

Gonna start wearing my sweet wigs a little more often now, so you’ll probably see more of them soon! :D

'Til next time,
Vanessa <3

A New Beginning

This is my first legit shoot for 2013, and I am extremely happy with it. These are just some of the shots that Life (yes, that’s her real name!) took, and I am definitely excited to see the rest!

CONFESSION: I was supposed to use one of these shots as my entry in dolldelight’s model search.

I’ve dropped out of the contest, not because I don’t have a presentable entry, but for personal reasons. I looked at these shots and realized that while we were shooting, I wasn’t thinking about the contest. I was doing this because it’s something I love. I work with the photographer to try and produce the best possible shots. I do it because this is the art that I choose.

I personally believe that our efforts deserve more than to be entered in a popularity contest. I understand the value of an artist’s effort, and I don’t think any form of art should be judged according to its popularity, but rather, by its quality. (the entries in round 1 look good, don’t get me wrong. Check them out yourself!)

This shoot marks a new beginning for me. A renewed appreciation for photography, and for my chosen art. I made it my new year’s resolution to do at least one good shoot every month, and I think this is an excellent start. I’m ridiculously excited to shoot again, and I am already preparing for February’s shoot. :D
