The life, style, and derp of a small-town girl. Dress-up misadventures, crafting frustrations, and little obsessions can be found here.

This blog is full of my face. You have been warned.

Cranky Cupcake
It’s April 1, and people are posting all their “pranks” online. People are suddenly “in a relationship” or “getting married” or “pregnant.” I don’t know about you, but I feel like it’s disrespectful to joke about those things because they’re things that people actually have as part of their reality. :(
Here, have a picture of me being a cranky cupcake.

A Sweet Mid-Week Pick-Me-Up on LOOKBOOK.nu
The sweet substyle of lolita really is where my heart is. I’ve been leaning towards more toned-down sweet, as proven by my more recent purchases and coordinates. However, nothing beats looking like a walking cake. XD and I love love love the strawberry print on this JSK.
Not sure if anyone has noticed, but I’m also a fan of using regular/non-lolita tops in my coordinates. I know that there’s a bit of hate going on for it, but it looks nicer to me. I like lolita blouses, but don’t want to be limited to that, either.

Feeling a little sweet ♡ (on LOOKBOOK.nu)
I miss getting to wear lolita often! I always gravitated towards the sweet substyle because it’s easy to coordinate.
Finally got this JSK in mint green after waiting for it to restock for goodness knows how long. XD I don’t think I ever wanted it to be super bright or anything, though I should probably try coordinating it with other colors. I just really like how it looks with black. :P
Also tried a little something new, wig-wise. This wig didn’t use to be like this, and I don’t know how it ended up this fluffy, but I felt like I could pass for Effie Trinket. I’m still partial to wearing long, curly wigs in other colors, and I’m not sure if I like this style on me when I wear lolita. What do you think?

Old School Vanessa!
This shot’s from 2011, back when I got to wear lolita often. It feels so long ago, and I can’t wait to wear lolita again. <3
I actually kind of hated this wig on me, back then. Now I kind of miss it and I want to get another lavender wig. XD I abused this particular JSK, though. It was the item that marked my mint obsession. ‘Til now, I only have the mint colorway of JSKs. Whoops?

The Less Glamorous Side

I was going through my hard drive, trying to organize my photo folders. I stumbled on a folder of outtakes from one of my favorite shoots, shot by Luisa Manuel. My awesome makeup was done by Caz Buss of Amadeobeloved. Everything came together so nicely, and I loved all my shots.

I normally post “nice” photos from my shoots. That’s usually what everyone sees on my page, and I rarely put up my awkward outtakes. Here’s a sample of a “proper” shot:

That’s what most people expect to see when I say I had a photo shoot. What happens between the proper shots is this, though:

Yes. I turn into the most awkward creature ever. Awkward pose, awkward face, awkward EVERYTHING. And it gets progressively worse as the shoot goes on.

Awkward face is awkward. This was unintentional on my part. Sometimes I like making faces at other people who are at the shoot, too. I am very easily distracted.

I end up goofing off when I can’t think of any more poses.

So, what’s the point in me showing you all of my derp faces?

A lot of people tell me I look glamorous/refined in my photos, and some people seem to believe that I never have bad moments caught on camera during shoots. Here ya go, y’all. Awkward faces everywhere, from yours truly. XD

The next time you see someone’s glamorous, fixed-up shots, you know that there are probably a bunch of unflattering photos of them that may never see the light of day. XD

Love,
Vanessa
